Why the Tread Is Different From the Bike

None of that carries over to running.

When Apple added Bluetooth sensor support in watchOS 10, the feature was entirely cycling-focused—power meters, cadence sensors, speed sensors. Running sensors weren't included then and still aren't. There is no footpod section in watch settings, and there never has been.

So on the Tread, the question isn't "how do I pair it." It's "which app is willing to listen."

  • Full rings credit and Apple Health sync

Apple Watch calibrates its indoor-run distance over time against your outdoor GPS runs, and for most runners it lands close. What you don't get is incline, or distance that matches the Tread's display exactly.

If you mainly want your run recorded, your rings closed, and your training log complete, this is enough—and it needs nothing but the watch you already own.

Where it falls short is steep incline work, where the watch has no idea you're climbing, and any session where you need your watch and the Tread to agree on the numbers.


Option 2: A Third-Party App That Reads the Broadcast

Setting It Up
